Perks are the least-examined part of a Game Pass subscription. Coverage treats them as a monthly listicle — here are September's five claimables, here are October's — which is fine for the cosmetics and useless for the question people actually have: is any of this worth money, and am I leaving some of it on the table?
The short answer is that Ultimate's perks split cleanly into two kinds. Three of them are full subscriptions to other services, bundled in, with real prices you can look up. The rest rotate monthly, are worth a few dollars, and quietly expire if you never open the right screen. Almost all the value is in the first group, and almost all the coverage is about the second.
The three bundled subscriptions
These do not rotate. They are part of what Ultimate is, and they are the only perks with a price tag you can check independently.
Fortnite Crew — $11.99/month standalone
This is the big one and it is routinely undersold. Crew includes the Fortnite Battle Pass, the OG Pass, the LEGO Pass and the Music Pass, a monthly cosmetic set, and 1,000 V-Bucks every month. As a standalone subscription it is $11.99.
Set that against Ultimate at $22.99 and the arithmetic is stark: if you were already paying for Crew, more than half of Ultimate's price is already accounted for before you look at a single catalogue game. If you play Fortnite regularly and pay for Crew separately, you are paying twice.
EA Play
Bundled into Ultimate and into PC Game Pass. It brings its own library, trials of new EA releases, and a member discount on EA purchases. Worth knowing precisely what it is not: this is standard EA Play, not EA Play Pro, and the difference decides whether a given EA game is included at all — the reason Battlefield 6 is not on Game Pass despite being an EA title.
Ubisoft+ Classics
A back-catalogue Ubisoft library, also bundled. The weakest of the three, and the one most people do not realise they have — it is worth checking before buying an older Ubisoft game outright, because there is a reasonable chance you already own access to it.
The monthly perks, and the mistake almost everyone makes
The rotating perks are in-game currency, cosmetic packs, occasional third-party subscription trials, digital comics, and similar. Individually they are worth a few dollars. Collectively, over a year, they are not nothing.
Here is the part worth acting on: they are not applied automatically. Each one has a claim window, and when the window closes the perk is gone. Nothing is granted silently, nothing arrives by email, and there is no catch-up. If you have never opened the Perks section, you have claimed exactly none of them for as long as you have been subscribed.
You will find it in the Xbox app on PC or mobile, and on console in the Game Pass area of the dashboard. It takes about a minute a month. That is the entire trick, and it is the only genuinely actionable thing in this article.
What the lower tiers get
The three bundled subscriptions are Ultimate features — that is most of what separates Ultimate from Premium. PC Game Pass includes EA Play on PC. Essential and Premium still see some monthly claimables and the member discount on Store purchases, but not the parts with standalone value.
This matters if you are choosing a tier. The gap between Premium and Ultimate looks like a few dollars a month for "more games", and for a Fortnite player it is really a few dollars a month for a $11.99 subscription plus more games. Two things follow. If you pay for Fortnite Crew separately, cancel one of them — that is free money you are currently giving away. And if you subscribe to Ultimate at all, open the Perks tab once a month, because the alternative is paying for something and then not taking it.
For whether the subscription itself adds up, the arithmetic is on the catalogue with buy prices attached — the only figure that decides it is how many of those games you would otherwise have bought.
